got a fairly healthy back pay check for all the taxes theyve been taking out of my check that they werent suppose to be because of comp laws so about a week ago i picked up a marlin cowboy 4570 and its going to clements for a barrel wacking and case hardening a interchangeable front sight on blade trinium and some more things. Then today santa ordered me a new #1 in 4570. Id give santa a good firm pat on the back if his back wasnt so sore.

I sold my 1895 Marlin Cowboy and boy do I regret it. I had mounted a Lyman receiver sight on it, (Marlin said it wouldn't work but it does) and a post front. What a rifle. Now I have sold my bolt actions due to lack of interest, and hunt only with my Model 94 Winchester 3030, that was bought new in 1957, and a Model 92 Winchester clone in 357 mag. Wish I had my Cowboy back, I miss those 9 shots, and I have a ton of 4570 ammo. It was heavier than necessary for the big hogs here in North Central Texas, but it sure put'em down with authority. That 405 grain hard cast would shoot thru the biggest hog.

Naw Lloyd, I in all likely hood will get another one. I have basically began a transition back to my roots, and show little interest in anything but levers in my old age. A friend much older than me, told me almost forty years ago that I eventually would. It appears he is right.
Good soundin guitars (country and gospel) and blue steel and wood in leveractions and the same in pump shotguns are about all that trip my trigger these days. Sounds boring doesn't it?

Not to me.  Do guitars come in 30-30???  Sure add a bit of percussion to an easy string........

Love the guitars and the country music. I really love the levers and I'm not even that old yet. I just tend to prefer the ones a bit bigger than the .30-30. I love my .45 colt and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Bout 10 yrs ago I came upon a 1895 cowboy,  LTD Serial # 9, in 45/70. It's still new in box, I never fired it.

Ive been hunting for yrs w/ a 1979 made mod 95 in 45/70, in the thick woods of northern Wisconsin, the 95 has never let me down.

 I also have an 1895G in 45/70, it shot excellennt right from the box. I have never taken a deer with it tho. The l. o. p. is short, but I can fix that.

Last year I invested in a 336 XLR in 30/30. It will drive tacks @ 100 yrds w/honady  leverlution ammo, with no recoil compared to 45/70. It's lots of fun to shoot.

I also have a 35 rem 336 and another 336 in 30/30, all excellent shooters and fun and easy to carry.
I have also gone back to my levers and single shots from the bolts.(custom Howas and Whetherbys.)

 My all time favorite cartridge is the 45/70. Over the years I have aquired a collection in that caliber.

You don't use the guitar. You use the strings, to set snares and choke them to death. Yes, it is more difficult but, the added effort is worth the satisfaction you get knowing that few can duplicate the feat. Of course when your done, you have to re-tune the guitar. Provided you didn't break a string during the hunt. Good grief some of you guys are helpless. Have to tell you everything.

You GUYS! I just can't help it...
I couldn't bring myself to replace my Winchester with my Martin, or my Marlin with my Gibsons for that matter - they won't let me play my rifles in church! My music ministry frowns on it. Got to be the guitars. So, in all fairness, the guitars go to church, the rifles go hunting. Sometimes even on a Sunday.
