Jackpot! What a deal on a GP100
« on: October 30, 2007, 02:20:34 PM »
Well, I stopped by the local gander mountain tonight just to pick up some powder for reloading.  I don't even try getting my hopes up about new guns there now since they jacked their prices up.  For instance, one of the guns I've always eyeballed is a stainless Ruger GP100 with a 6" barrel.  The GP100's like I just described are marked at $599, and I think that's outrageous.  Sadly that's within $50 of what they go for in my town.  The first thing I'd do with that gun is spend another $30 on Hogue grips and after tax I'd be in the $650 - $700 range.  Way to much for that gun in my opinion.

So anyway tonight as I walk past the counter I spot a used 6" stainless with Hogue grips on it.  Needless to say.... I'm interested.  It was listed at $360 and by playing with it I doubt it's had more than 200 rounds through it.  I was able to give this little guy a new loving home and he's in the gnu cabinet now.  All I could think was JACKPOT.  The odds of finding a practically new gun with hardly any signs of wear exactly like I'd want it for a good price (for my town anyway) are slim to none.  I was blessed today and I'm thankfull!

Nice find. I foolishly traded mine in my youth for a new-fangled auto of one flavor of the month. I wish I still had it.  Great guns, and yours will last forever. Have fun

Yeah, I think I did the stupidest thing ever this summer... passed on one the guy was selling for $260!  It looked pretty beat up, but still cycled fine and such.  Those are great guns... and I still haven't picked out up.  Soon, I promise all you other GP100 lovers out there!

I ended up replacing the regular hogue rubber grips with hogue tamer grips and wow.  It's such a comfortable gun to shoot!  Within 25 yards a deer will not have a chance.  These guns are great shooters.  I couldn't be happier with mine and can't recommend it enough.

I agree, I love mine too. I kept my stock grips.  I did just order a spring kit though.
