Mortar fabricator "Powder Keg"??
« on: June 16, 2009, 12:20:43 PM »
I was looking in the list of GBO supporters for  "Powder Keg" (Wes) but couldn't spot his name.  Believe his last post was last December.  Anyone know if he is still making mortars or what happened to him???
Thanks.

Bob,
FYI, I sent Wes a pm on 3/11/09, but received no reply, so I sent him an email about 5 days later, and that also was not responded to.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Last time I "talked" to Wes by email, he told me he was insanely busy at work, doing 12 hour days and sometimes 7 days a week, plus trying to go to school a couple of nights  week. I think he is just busy to the extreme, and isn't able to get online to answer emails that often. Hope things in Burly, Idaho are ok, he is just swamped! BoomLover

Thanks Boom J and BoomLover.  I too, hope all is well with Wes.  I bought a beer/soda can mortar from him a couple years ago, never got a chance to shoot it and of course I forgot what powder loads were SUGGESTED for concrete loaded drink cans.  Just want to get about 100 yards so shouldn't take too much of the CANNON grade or FG.
Just looking for moderate loads.  Can anyone help me out here - like maybe today??  Many Thanks!!

Start at 100 grains and work up.  100 yards should need between 200 and 300 grains,

Doug, sorry to bug with with another question that I neglected to include in my last post here.  Just wondering what the series of numbers are for, these are in the extreme right hand lower corner of posts??  TIA

Just wondering what the series of numbers are for, these are in the extreme right hand lower corner of posts??

Presumably you are asking about the numbers to the right of the three pronged icon that for posts other than yours say "Logged".  The number is the IP address of your computer.  An IP address is the internet address of a computer, in this case the one that made the post.  In most cases, it is not fixed in all its elements since your ISP (internet service provider) usually doesn't give ordinary users a fixed IP address.  So if you look at many of your posts, it may be different from one to the next.  Then again, it may not depending on what the forum software uses for the source of the data.

;D  Hi folks .,  I have been gone for a while ., life's  been hectic. I did see Wes about 10 days ago. WOW ! I know when I carouse around the cannon forum I am amongst brilliant fabricators. Myself I am not one. I do however know one when I see him. Wes allowed me the pleasure of a visit to his shop., he is truly a gentleman and a scholar. He showed me many things ., techniques and projects ., it was overwhelming.  I know he is very very busy and I am grateful to him for dedicating a weekend of his time to me.  He asked if I wanted to see the local sites ., but once in his shop ., I could not leave. We stayed there all weekend.  I am sure there a several on this forum like him ., I will say however with a problem placed in front of him .,  he has the ability to overcome it with ease he has a good eye for detail an makes problem-solving simple. I am impressed and amazed.
