Encore 244 Rem Feedback sought
« on: September 19, 2007, 04:15:32 PM »
I'm considering obtaining an Encore barrel in 244 Remington caliber.
I'd like to have a little feedback from others who have used or are currently using this caliber barrel on the Encore.
I'd like as many pros and cons as you are willing to share.
Include things such as T/C versus other manufacturer.
I'm familiar with the 244 so tutorial in the cartridge itself is not needed.
This does not mean I don't want what works in your barrel and what doesn't, I'm just a 244 fan.
I'd like feedback on barrel length, twist, weight and such, both good and what to avoid.
I appreciate any intel you might share with me.
Thanks.

I have a 26" Encore barrel chambered for 6mm Rem that I got off of Midway USA.  It has a 1:10" twist vs a normal 1:9" for most 6mm's. It shots very well.  I don't think the longer barrel is a disadvantage.  It is very handi and points well plus the extra few inches really add significant velocity to this particular cartridge (about 30fps/inch).  I love the .244/6mm.  Very versital.   It should make a great deer / coyote rifle.

I don't really see any "cons" to the .244.  Some might wish to shoot heavier bullets that require a faster twist rate but I've had great results from 85 or 87gr. bullets from Speer, Sierra Hornady.  That put deer down ... FAST.

I hope this is helpful

Reynolds,
Thanks for the feedback.
After I posted this question I remembered having Waters book so went to it as well.
Rather interesting reading to say the least.
He had rather interesting results with the longer barrel and heavier bullets with the twist in both the 6mm and 244.
I think I'm going to look for either a 24" or 26" barrel now. Twist ?? right now.
Again I appreciate your real life feed back.
Now to find good moulds and a barrel, well after I find the money for them that is!
Turning into a real bad season money wise it appears.
This to shall pass though.
Thanks again.

I have a Bullberry 24" 6MM. The only difference between the 2 is the twist. I believe the 244 is 1 and 12. Cases are Identical. I shoot IMR--4350 Pushing 85 and 100 grain Bullets very well. You will be better off staying under 85 grain bullets. Good Luck. Lou
