Another new Omega
« on: September 23, 2007, 01:18:22 PM »
Picked up an Omega Z5 recently and topped it off with the Nikon Omega BDC scope and T/C Maxima rings. I lost my old Omega to a divorce. Anyway, this new combo is sweet. Zeroed in at 100 yards and shooting 1" groups, move out to 200 and it drops them right in there with the Nikon BDC scope. Im shooting the 250 grain Shockwave bullets over 3 Triple seven pellets, fist shot from a cold clean bore centers the bull on the target and as long as you keep the barrel cool and wipe between shots it drops the rest of them right in there with the first shot. Was thinking of trying the .25 ACP conversion but with 1" groups @ 100 yds.
I really see no reason for the added expense. The primers Im using are the Winchester Triple 7 primers, they seem to work well.
Cant wait for Nov. 17 opening morning!    ;D

I have the "original" Omega. Shoots 1" groups out to 100 yards. Was always tough to load other than the power belts. Did they improve this one as far as loading.

Marty, that "tough to load" tight fitting sabot/bullet combo is where the Omegas accuracy comes from in my opinion. I hear the superglide sabots are easier to load but I really dont have any trouble with mine as long as I wipe with a damp patch between shots. If you shoot without wiping between shots then yes your going to have trouble loading.

I've been shooting the 295 gr power belts with two 777's and am quite happy with the combo. I've heard stories that power belts aren't great for deer but so far I've had no complaints since none of them have run more than 25 yards.
Good luck with your new Omega.

I just picked up my new Omega X7 last night, also with the Nikon Omega BDC scope.  Went out today during lunch hour.  Started with 250g shockwaves and 120grains of 777.  1st shot was 6" low and 2" right, lined up scope back to bulls eye and adjusted to point of impact.  2nd shot in center of bulls eye.  Then went to 100 yards and fired 3 shots resulting in a 1 1/4" group.  6th shot was at 200yards using the 200 yard circle, and was about 4" low.  7th shot was at 200 yards using the 225 yard circle, and impact was close to the center.  Kind of makes sense as the scope is set up for 150grains and a 28" barrel, while I'm shooting 120grains with a 24" barrel.  Anyway, I will be spending a lot of time working up the optimum load, but am very pleased with the preliminary results.

I have one of the older Omega's and I load HPH-24 sabots just fine, but if they are to tight MMP makes a HPH-3p-EZ that will load .451/.452's just fine.  If you have tried to load SST's  - they will come with a HPH-12 sabot which is to thick.

Actually my SS Omega loads all sabots - other than the HPH-12 just fine.  I can shoot the MMP HPH 40/50 blue sabot, the Green HPH .429/50 cal sabots and as I mentioned the HPH-24 .451/.452-50cal sabots.
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

I would forget about the .25acp breech plug, you have an accurate set up. Why bother tinkering with it?
