Reloading to shoot more
« on: October 07, 2007, 08:29:09 AM »
Some of the guys at the last GBO P-dog shoot asked how i was able to get some of my local gun shops to kick in things for door prizes , my awnser was simply that i shoot alot therefore i spend alot on on reloading supplies . this got me to thinking about just how much i spend a year to shoot .  ???

Last sunday was a typical day at the range for the family , we do this at least once a month some times twice a month . it consisted of .

Rifle

  60 - 270
100 - 30/30
100 - 218 Bee
200 - 223
200 - 22LR
  40 - 243
  40 - 22-250
  60 - 45/70

Handgun

500 - 9mm
400 - 38 spl
200 - 357 Mag
150 - 45LC
  50 - 41 GNR

Grand total of 2100

Yes 2100 rounds , and if you times that by at least 12 , you end up with somewere in the area of 25,000 rounds a year , granted not all the trips expend that many rounds but some are more .

The moral of this story is , Look how much money i save by reloading .  :o  :o  ;D  ;)

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are! :) ;D

When I first started loading, much like most folks I believed it was to save money.  Now days I can take a look at literally thousands of dollars worth of loading equipment on my bench and realize the truth.  What we do is nothing more than an extension of the shooting we enjoy.  Couple thousand rounds a month sounds about right here too unless I'm in AR and Ak mode then than figure jumps dramatically.

Oh well at least I'm a better shot for it ;D

I easily save $20,000 per year by shooting. If it weren't for shooting, I'd probably have a Porsche payment, a red-headed paramour, large bar tabs, and a litany of bad habits. Shooting is cheap compared to all that.

Shooting is fun. Reloading requires thinking. Reloading for accuracy requires even more thinking.

And there is a certian satisfaction when place the bullet where you want to at 100, 200, or 300 yards or beyond based upon the research and knowledge you acquired from reading.

Davemuzz - you're absolutely right about being satisfied.  I started reloading to save $ years ago and I reload now to have the type of ammo I prefer shooting in both handguns and rifles.  It is verrrrry satisfying to be able to take game with one's own handloads.  JMTCW.  Mikey.

Mikey,

Yes, I agree. That's "half" of the equation in hunting. The other "half" is taking the game in "his own living room" so-to-speak. To the "uneducated" it ain't as easy as it looks.

Questor, you got me thinking, maybe I should take a year off from reloading.  Sure could use a new truck.
