shooting in the tri city area
« on: September 22, 2007, 02:55:34 PM »
does anyone know of any public ranges in the tri city area? i know there are some clubs but was looking more for a casual use area with no membership required.  would also like to be able to shoot at ranges longer than 100 yards. 200 at least and 400 or more would be great.  i would like to improve my shooting skills and just find it hard to find the time to get up to the farm in gladwin to shoot.
get some wolfie!!!

I guess there is always Duncan's in Bay City.  They have a 200 yard indoor range.  Maybe you could call and ask them about an outdoor range in the area.  Frank's in Linwood or Michigan Sportsman in Bay City might know as well.

I don't know of a DNR range up that way.  Lansing has a nice one but that would be farther than Gladwin most likely.

loboman 7x57, I too live in saginaw and can't think of any public shooting area like you require. the bay county sportsman club west of crump, has a 200 yd rifle range. If you don't want to be a member you'll need to go with a member to shoot there. Mayville has a range to 500 yds but again you have to be a member or be with one.
aim small miss small,
think small,miss not at all

Loboman 7X57, the Midland County Sportsman's Club has 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 600 yard ranges.  However, it is a private club requiring membership to shoot.  It does have a guest shooter provision that costs $5 per day; but you have to be accompanied by a member.

Get the "HAP" booklet from the DNR and then find a farm in your area and ask the farmer if you could use his gravel pit to sight in.  I hunted the HAP program many times near Bay city and around Clio when I was stationed in Bay City.  A few farmers didn't mind as long as no one else was hunting that day.  You have to register each time you hunt that particular peice of land so you will know who else is there from looking in the Hap farmers mailbox.  Each hunter fills out a card to hunt that day and you'll see.
