Nikon Monarch opinions ???
« on: September 26, 2007, 09:32:39 AM »
I was in Wally World chatting with the sporting goods dept. manager at lunch.  He pointed out to me that he will be discounting a 3-9x40 Nikon Monarch to $255 because the the box & papers are missing.  They will not be carrying that model any more either.  $55 & change more than a similar Buckmaster with the box.  Is this too good a buy to pass up?  How would this scope compare to a Mueller 30/30?  Or should I just save some more for a Mueller Tac II?
Cordially,

The Monarch is more comparable to the TacII in the Mueller line, both are great scopes, but I think the Tac II has an edge in that it's made in Japan and has a mildot reticle, has a slightly larger 44mm objective and is 10x instead of 9x, the Monarch is made in the Philippines, but has slightly better eye relief, and is available with the BDC reticle, I'm sure you'd be very happy with either of em! ;)

I'm guessing in the last year or so, I thought they were made in Japan too, I just bought mine this year, it's last year's model I think, not the new model 3-9x40 UCC.
