7.62x39
« on: October 01, 2007, 02:27:40 AM »
Has anyone had experience with this Handy? I bought a Handy .243 last year for my girls to shoot & hunt with. I should have thought it through alittle more as the .243 ammo is pretty expensive to plink with. I'm now considering trading for the 7.62x39 or the .223 so I can buy bulk ammo without breaking the bank. The girls like going to the range much more than the hunting just because they can shoot. I'm leaning toward the 7.62 because I've killed a few deer with this round in my SKS. Any info on this round would be appreciated.

You can't use the cheap ammo in the handis.  Sorry to burst your bubble.  Everyone that has tried seems to have trouble.  the 7.62 stuff won't even shoot in most of them due to the harder primers.

The Wolf Ammo will shoot about 15 out of 20 times in my 7.62x39 barrel, but reloads work every time. The Wolf will sometimes fire on the 2nd or 3rd hit but a few will never fire.  I have been shooting 6 grains of Trailboss with a .309 lead 165 grain bullet.   Personal experience tells me this a good load for squirrel, armadillo, and coyote.  I am going to load some hotter 125 grain bullets for the late doe season.  My sons and I are going to try and kill a deer with all my barrels this year.

I just took my brand new 7.62x39 out and shot about 30 rounds down the pipe to see how it would shoot the federal American eagle ammo shot really well with tight groups at 50 yrds also had a box of the $4.29 wolf along and could not get primers to fire on any that I tried. I will start to reload late this winter for it as it seems to be a good shooter. I would say if you are a re loader get it ,if not let someone know about the bbl or get it for trading fodder they don't make them anymore. Kurt
