If you have meat on yer bones, electricity in yer brain, an powder and ball fer yer rifle, come enjoy the Rondy in Evenston Wyoming this Thurs, Fri, and Sat.  There's all sorts of fun and some very friendly nice type people there.  This is one of the best middle sized Rondys South of the Henry's Fork of the Snake.  It really is a nice family event with events for the children as well as the adults.  See You'all there

Sound like a good time to me but Wyoming is a bit far for me on short notice. Be safe and have fun.

I do not think we should jump on the same band wagon as some traditionalists. That is, if it is modern it must be bad.  I personally think there is a rich history in Rendezvous, and those that want to take part - great.  I shoot modern ML's, well as modern as the state of Idaho would allow, but I have no problem with a guy or gal that prefers the traditional rifle.

Let's not become "horses rear-ends" as some others are.

Just thinking some day we will all need each other, especially if Hillary gets there....
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Back from the Rondy.  I took a Mowrey tree rifle in 58 caliber.  Didn't do well at the paper and metal, but that big 58 can cut 4 cards with one shot in the poker shoot. I did win some money.  My sister took 2nd in the paper and trail walk and my wife enjoyed making smoke.  We had a bull moose walk through camp on Sunday morning and had to stop our paper shoot to let two deer walk behind the targets on their way home.  On Sat night we had a moose (not the same one) and buffler BBQ topped off with a personal serenade from Many Strings and his family.  It was shinnin times.  If you ever get a chance to visit this Rondy, which is one week before the big Bridger Rondy and only several miles away, please do so.  It was a great time.

My son and I just joined an  1840's venture crew ( Boy Scouts).  The crew is 1840's mountain man.  I am now in need of outfitting myself and my son in traditional 1840's attire and gear .  Since I see some Rondy people here .... were is a good place to start?? Thanks in advance.  BTW I was able to get 2 used TC Hawkens ( .50 cal) but that is as far as I've gotten.

A great place to start is at a Rondezvous or a trade show, but attire can be bought mail order/internet if you choose to attend properly dressed too. ;) I made my first set of clothing, bought patterns and material for period clothing at the local fabric store, ordered a pair of mocassins mail order from a fella that makes em in his home. I highly recommend "The Book of Buckskinning" series of books if you're interested in making a lot of your own gear.  This list should give you a good start. ;)

Quick, thank you for the information.  I think I'll find most of what I need there.

For 1840's to 1860's some traditional style pants and items can be ordered from Gohn Bros of Middlebury Indiana.  I don't think they have a web site.  It is an Amish clothing mail order out fit.  The Broadfall pants come in two or three colors and cotton as well as wool.   Such items would be correct for 1825 to civil war.  When I last checked their catalogue they also offerred period correct shirts of Muslin.  They stuff shrinks alot so be careful ordering.  You can get pants for around $25.00 a pair. If the weather isn't real cold, a long sleeve plain Henly shirt from Wally world in an earth tone will fit the bill, (not the waffle knit or thermal).  Some times traditional type clothes shows up in the oddest places.  I bought a really nice wool blanket shirt at a nearby Department store for $20.

Certainly, you can get started with acceptable stuff cheap and then research what you are really looking for.

More than one buckskinner mountain man wanna be has purchased a sewing machine and learned to sew.  I purchased my tent but made my matching  fly and shower as well as some shirts and other colonial era gear.   I made my daughter's buck skin dresses and her colonial dresses when she was a toddler.
