I've never had the cash available at the right time to jump on a pistol pac when one comes up for a decent price, or what is claimed to be "in excellent condition" turns out to be "fair", at best. One looked great on one side, the other was severely pitted.
My "super snubbie" wasn't used extensively, it was just really dirty inside, and out. wear was minimal. The only thing wrong with it was the holes in the cylinder were very rough. I took the dremel tool and polished them up after I got the lead out of them, something that was much harder than I expected it to be, it was like it was glued to them. I shined up the inside of the frame a little (it was better than most of my previous DW's were, and polished out a rough spot where the hand comes out. It didn't affect anything, it just looked bad, and I always seemed to touch it for some reason. Lockup was fine, not quite as good as my 715 is, but ok. I had a new trigger and hammer ready to go, but there was no visible wear on anything, except the transfer bar, it was shinier than the one on my first Model 15, that I bought used, and put at least 5000 rounds through. I think the previous owner got the moto tool out and shined the blue right off it. I put one of the spares I bought in, and put the polished one into my "desperation" parts pile. When I started thinking about buying a 715/15, I started buying parts off Ebay and gun auction sites, to add to what I kept from my "deal of a lifetime" $50 box of DW parts I bought where I got a complete used gun that I assembled while sitting in a Burger King parking lot after lunch on the way home from buying it at a gun store that was going out of business. I got several barrels and shrouds, and several guns worth of internal parts. I sold most of them, but kept all the springs, hands, plungers, etc needed for two guns. That was in 1981 or so, and I couldn't find them for almost a year, so I bought parts on ebay to replace them in the meantime.
