Barrel will not stay closed
« on: October 06, 2007, 07:01:41 PM »
I have a friends stainless handi in 243 at my house right now. His problem is that when shooting it, sometimes the barrel breaks open right after the shot.

Any suggestions on what is causing this?.

Thanks
Marc

timber..as quickdtoo..mentioned the FAQ..section cover's that..i will say if it's not reloaded brass..there's probably gunk & oils  in the action..causing a improper lock up..if it is reloaded brass ya need to check that..if the shoulder isn't pushed back enough..the action will pop open..that's my experiance's..nothing in stone..

I do the reloading for my friend, and I full length size every time.

The barrel latch lever seems to have a lot of side to side play. Both when the action is open and closed. Not sure if that means a lot. But there is no play on the down stroke to break the action.

 ??? ::) ???

The barrel release button should be loose when the barrel is locked up and tight, that's normal, it should be fairly tight when the barrel is open, no looseness.  See the barrel fitting info in the FAQs, it tells how to check latch engagement. Read the Handi 101 too, you may just not be closing the action firm enough, as always, read the owner's manual, it addresses that issue.

It seems as if any link in the FAQ section that ends with  " /index.php/topic,xxxxx.0.html " is not working today either.

Maybe for the same reason the banners aren't working, Matt's working on it, I'm sure, but he was busy looking for a new home yesterday. ;)
