A new Browning man!
« on: September 04, 2007, 12:39:30 AM »
I went to a gun show today looking for an older Marlin lever action when I ran across a Browning BAR that was screaming at me. It's a BAR MK-II Safari in 30-06 with some pretty nice wood and the gun is absolutely like new. The bluing is perfect and there are no scratches whatsoever in the stocks. It has a Leupold one piece base installed. After alot of talking about the price I finally walked away with it for $565. I'm very excited about my new gun and just wanted to tell somebody.
I also picked up 400+ pieces of once fired 30-06 brass for $30.
I can't wait to try out the BAR. I've got a 3-9 Leupold Century Limited Edition scope that I will be putting on it.

i also want a BAR. i about bought one at my gun shop a while back but i picked it up and it was very unstable and someone had been tinkering with the stock so that the bolt is stripped out. and it was all scarched up so i passed up on it

I got my scope installed and was able to get my BAR lined up. My first three shots at 100 yards measured 1.375" and I was very pleased with the accuracy. The center of the group was high and to the left so I made the adjustments to the scope and fired another 3 shot group. This group measured .875" and I was absolutely tickled to death!
The recoil from this gun is very soft, the gas operated semi-auto action really soaks up alot of recoil and makes the gun a real pleasure to shoot.

GOOD SHOOTING!

I know what you mean about Browning accuracy.

I bought an A-Bolt in 308 about a month ago. Put on a Leupold 2.5 x 8 and it shoots 3/8" to 1/2"  3 shot groups all day long with the cheapest Federal 180 grain ammo I could buy.

bought a used BAR once when just out of school and had no rifle for deer.. it had been left sitting in a puddle obviously and was rusted all along one side, but the inside was perfect and it appeared almost unshot..
I had  only about fifty dollars and bought a really cheap scope used and some bases and one box of ammo... sighted it in and got a shot the next day.. that gun served me very well... got my buck with it the next day... which was the last day of the season, and I was a guest...
I love the BAR, and would go back to one in a second..
I let it go and wish I had not..
a little cosmetics....
thanks for the memory..
it has not changed a bit, the browning is still a great gun and the best semi auto I know of...
