Midsouth important please read
« on: October 15, 2007, 12:45:04 PM »
I just got a letter from midsouth today. It seems they had a problem with web site security and some information may have been leaked. I am contacting my card issuer and suggest you do the same just to be safe.

I got one too, called the CC issuer, they said not to worry, that their policy is to monitor accounts for suspicious activiity anyway, but they noted on the account that I had notified them of the incedent.  I thought maybe they'd want to issue a new card, but they weren't concerned.

No, but compared to others, their shipping is very reasonable, and being a GBO sponsor, dealing with them when you can is a win win deal. ;)

When I use my debit card if at all possible I CALL the company and place my order. Figure it is safer that way.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I'd think twice about using a debit card for ANY mail order purchase, I won't due to the lack of protection and security risk to my checking account, plus if there's a mistake on the other end, they can drain you account and it may take months to get the bank to correct the error. I listen to Clark Howard daily, the real life debit card horrors that are reported are very enlightening to the unaware. ;)

What are the disadvantages of a debit card?

You need enough money in your bank account to cover each purchase.
Since you paid for the purchase at checkout and the money is out of your account, you have less protection if something goes wrong with the purchase. Your bank won't put money back into your account for items that are never delivered, don't work or were misrepresented.
You may have bank fees—such as monthly service charges, per-transaction costs or penalties—for dropping below your required minimum balance. Check with your bank to find out those extra costs.
You have less protection if your debit card is lost or misused than with a credit card.

Midsouth charges only the actual price they pay to ship your order to you no more.

I've not gotten an e-mail but then I ALWAYS place my orders by phone. I still don't really trust the internet with my card info. Guess I'm an eternal pessimist.

I've gotten a million of those from every bank and other financial institution in the world I think even one or two with the name of a bank I actually use. They are ALL identity theft attempts. NEVER give out any info to them as no real financial institution would EVER need you to verify your info to them in such a manner. My spam filter junks dozens of such trash daily along with ads to sell me watches, all sorts of pills and virility enhancers and such. I NEVER open any such trash and just let my spam filter delete it for me.

those types of emails are called phishing. They are looking for your bank info to clean you out. Delete them and forget them. Any credible bank would not ask for your info in an email if they have a problem. I got the I have 6.5 million in a bank and need your info to transfer it into your account since my hubby died. I was entitled to 20 percent of it for helping out. Yeah right
