Brownells,Bake on finish Insructions???????
« on: October 10, 2007, 04:59:40 PM »
After watching the instructions on using Brownells bake on finish I'm not sure I can use them to finish my barrel. The little video state to prep. the metal by bead blasting then degrease it. While I can definitely degrease the barrel I have no way to bead blast it. it will be a brand new chrome molly barrel in the white. Is it really necessary to bead blast? Or should I use there alumahyde II finish?

I've not tried the bake on finishes.

I have used Aluma Hyde II on several occasions and like it very much.  It goes on thick, so care is need around tight fitted parts and areas.

I've had good luck by  roughing  the surfaces with 120 grit sandpaper. I have one shotgun prepped this way over 20 years ago, still on there.

On just the barrel, cut the paper into 1" strips and use a "shoe shine" action to rough the surface.
