Marlin 1895 Cowboy.

I have been looking at rifles for side matches at CAS shoots. I posted in the Marlin section and didn'y get any replies. My question is will an 1895 Cowboy compete with the Sharps and Highwalls up to 500 yds? I have a Marlin 30-30 and a 35 Rem and would like to add to the collection but if they won't compete I will go with a single shot first. Looking at the 45-70's

The Marlin 1895 lever action in .45-70 does not compete in the same SASS category as the single-shot .45-70 rifles in side matches. From the SASS Shooter's Handbook, page 17:

There are four categories in long range or precision rifle competition, plus one optional
category:
• Lever action, revolver caliber,
• Lever action, rifle caliber,
• Single Shot,
• Buffalo Single Shot,
• Open Category (may be used at the match director’s option to include those firearms not
covered by the four official Long Range Categories).
Blackpowder categories can be added to any or all of the basic categories at the option of
the match director. Each category competes within itself

That answers my question. Looks like they could go against each other in an open class.
