MDL 14 ??
« on: October 12, 2007, 05:12:48 PM »
Since the 14 is a fixed sight, does anyone know if there is a specific load and/or distance these were regulated to?
A buddy just picked one up (Monson 3xxxxx) and doesn't handload yet

My model 14 shoots to point-of-aim with 158 grain bullets.  It shoots about 1.5 inches low at 25 yards with 125 grainers.

Be advised... Model 15 front sights are too tall for the Model 14 but many people have put model 15 front sight blades on Model 14's in order to get the red, yellow, or white ramp insert.  Model 15 sight blades came in two heights, .250" and .300".   Model 14's typically won't have an insert and use a .200" tall front sight blade.  Using a Model 15 front sight blade on a Model 14 will result in the gun shooting way too low.

Great info, thanks. I was pretty sure the standard was 158's @ 25 yds. I learned about the different blade heights after buying a used 6" .22.
This Mdl 14 has has 4" and 6" barrels and I believe both front sights have red inserts.
He will have to shoot it some more so we will know for sure
