Shotgun ballistics and symbols
« on: November 27, 2007, 07:40:35 AM »
Ok Backround,   I have chased a 16 yr old kid off my property several times this year.  In January, while I was down in the creek bottom picking up firewood, he sprayed the bottom with 20 to 30 shots from a semi auto 22 rf.  Needless o say I was a bit PO'd.  Warned him to stay off and out of my property.  In May, he was tearing up my creek banks with an ATV, chased him out again.  In October, he was down in the creek with a rifle and spotlights, "coon hunting" and I chased him out and called the cops.  In early November, I caught him slinking around the woods just 120 yds from my house with a bow, dressed all in camo.  (Actually, the shepherds sniffed him and I should not have called them off)  I chased him off again and called the police. Again cops just talk with his parents.   Well last Friday evening, I am watching the news, about 6:30pm, at least an hour after hunting stopped, and I hear a shot very close to the house.  I grabbed my pistol and went out side and just as I rounded the corner of the house, I hear another shot and within a 1/4 second, pellets are spraying all over the side of the house.  Fortunately, I was below the patio fence.  Of course because it was so dark, I couldn't see anything.  I got the sot light and caught a glimpse of him as he high tailed it up the other side of the hollow.  It turns out to be the 16 yr old kid, who lives on an acre lot a half mile away.  I go up to complain to the parents and I was told I was trespassing and ordered to leave.  I did get a picture of the kid as he crossed the road in my headlights heading back home.  Freakin cops took to hours to arrive.    I found two Remington 12 ga hulls, high brass and dark green plastic, down next to the creek which runs about 100 yds behind the house.     I think he was intentionally aiming at the house.  After all it was dark as He!! and my house was illuminated by the interior lights and the dusk to dawn in the parking area.

Now the pertinent question, where can I find the ballistics for the range and spread and drop of shot shells?    The shot and pellets didn't do much more than scare me, one window on that side of the house is cracked now and there are a few pellet holes in the screen.

I want the kid nailed for being the crap that he is, not some hunting accident BS.   Neighbors told me he shot at another house in the community a year ago, but no one knows any specifics and I can't research juvie records because of the freakin privacy laws.     The cop gave me a week to come up with proof that it wasn't an accident.  Otherwise all he gets is a trespassing charge.

proof  it wasn't an accident is that it happened after hunting hours and on your land.

next time you catch him on his 4 wheeler on your land confiscate it and chain it up where it sits. let him explain to the cops why he is on your land and why it was locked up
but before you do make sure your entire property is posted.

The Layman Shotgun reloading manual will have all of the data you need. It will give you the max. range of abt. all sizes of shot at different velocities. The apx. velocities of of factory loads ect. I would not only press charges on the kid, but have a restraining order placed against his whole family. If the shot did any damage I would sue. That kid needs his attitude changed or he`ll spend along time in prison, and it don`t look like his parents are going to.
