picked up the latest addition...question (1)
« on: October 12, 2007, 11:43:48 AM »
...I went to the kittery trading post and picked up a 1997 whitetails unlimited 45-70 that i had put on lay away sight unseen

It was a little disappointing as the previous owner had installed some sort of extra high addition to the front sight and moved the rear sight to the rear

So, I reblued the barrrel and replaced the sights to original configuration

Just one question:  "Is the rear sight on one of these supposed to be a ghost ring insert or the usual square blade of the older sight style they used to use....

It is OK, but i prefer the little blocky square rear sight to even the newer williams sights....

H&R has used several different sight over the years, the aluminum sight they've used for the past few years is the Williams WGOS, but the older sights were like their proprietary sight as shown below.

Hey Tim!....thanks for the response....those little blocky, screwdriver adjustable sights are what the first couple of handi rifles i bought had on them, including a tracker 2 slug gun in 12 guage.

I prefer those to any other sights i have ever used besides the sights on my knight muzzleloader and my sons traditions muzzleloaders...

I will have to see if i can get one of those little leaf blades reinstalled....

Thanks again.

This one makes 45-70 number 3 and i think i shall have to have one of the buffalo classics as well after the christmas shopping madness that is about to hit my household (3 older kids)
