barrel inquiry

if you were to build a wildcat in a bolt short action, .25 cal that could launch a 120gr bullet at 3250+fps what twist rate would you use... barrel length.. an grove
whats a Wyat's extender ?
also would it have a short or long throat ed chamber.. ?
i would have in mind to use it for a part bench / varmint

I'd go with the 25 WSSM. Not a wildcat but it may as well be because it will probably disappear soon as a production cartridge.  I think it would be a good choice for bench and varmint shooting because it has the shape advantages that seem to help when bug-hole accuracy is needed. I'd leave throat length and twist rate it to the gunsmith to decide, but I'd choose the gunsmith based on his experiece in building bench rest guns. I'd decide on bullet weights of preference before contacting the gunsmith.

Another option would be a wildcat that already exists. Look for 25 caliber wildcats based on the 300 WSM. I know they're out there.

If I think about it some more I may come to prefer the WSM to the WSSM cases.

I'd make the gun around 12 pounds with a heavy barrel of about 26". Stainless so it doesn't heat up so fast when shooting prairie dogs on sunny days.
