308 Winhester

Looking for some loads for a 308 Win and 165gr bullets.  I am shooting a Rem 750 Carbine.

The responsibility of owning reloading equipment requires that you immediately go buy at least two reloading manuals.  Start with the Lee and Lyman since they are wide ranging and are not exclusive to any case, bullet or powder.  Most bullet and powder manufacturers have web sites with fully tested data available also.  The forum contributors with access to labs that can verify the safety of their recommended loads can be counted on a single hand.  Everyone else in the world is suspect.

Steve,

While I don't have a load for ya, I will ask this... Is the 750 an autoloader? My brotherinlaw had one of the older Remingtons in 243 & his brother had one in 30/06. They had to get some kind of special dies for this rifle. I seem to remember that they were "small based dies"? You might want check on this before getting to far.

I use Varget powder (near max) and 165 gr Sierras in my .308. One year I took a bear, antelope and whitetail with one shot each using that load.  I also got good accuracy with IMR 4895 but the Varget gave higher numbers on the chrony.   When I tried to match the velocities of the the Varget with the 4895, the groups opened up and I started getting cratered primers.  From what I have read, the .308 will shoot a lot of different powders well.

I've loaded 308 for a Rem 788 , Sav 99 and now my sons Encore with a 15 " barrel,   all three liked 150 gr Spitzer FB on top of IMR 4895.  Got good groups.  I get a lot of flash with the 15 " Encore, guess thats to be expected though.  Good luck   Mike

Mine likes H-414 with 165gr Sierra, or 165 Nosler BT. Gave me .5" 3 shot groups @ 100Yds. for the first 4 groups then it wants cleaned. A Rem 788 W/20" bbl an older model before they put that 18 1/2" bbl on them.

My favorite 308 load with 168 grain bullets uses IMR 4064.

I am using the Varget.  I worked it up to about the max and it shoots good.
