Stevens 200 accuracy ???

Got one of these in a .308, just wondering, with factory ammo, how good of a group should I expect?
The gun is stock as far as I know (no trigger work etc.)
The ammo is the cheaper winchester 150gr sp.

The Stevens 200 is nothing but a Savage 111 without the accu-trigger. I had a pre accu-trigger 111 that was very accurate out of the box. It was in .270 and I was able to get 1" or less groups at 100 yards.

Both my .308 and my .223 shoot very accurately.  I am having some problems getting the .223 to reliably load the second bullet out of the mag.

blucollar,
I just sold one to fund some other projects. Rifle shot 1.5MOA easily and closer to MOA with a 180gr reload. Light rifles so they recoil a bit more ... but I'd have another in a flash as its the best of the budget rifles in my opinion. Mine required the flashings be removed from the stock mould lines with a sharp knife, then fitted a 6x leupold and it was set to go.

DavOh, I tried it with a cheap Tasco scope off a single Bulls sandbag and got 2" groups at 100yds. Good trigger and everything seems to function well.
I've since put a older Redfield on but haven't had a chance to try it.
Also this is with the cheapest winchester ammo 150gr SP. Also picked up some Federal ammo to try.
I'd buy another one in a minute, not fancy but handles well. I have had a little trouble finding a upgraded kickpad, but other than that I like it.

I had my 7-08 Stevens 200 barrel cut to 18 1/2 , now shoots 1/2" groups. Was  getting 1 1/2" groups stock.

The Pachmayr one for the Savage 110 syn, order # 724 in the Cabala's catalog fit my 308 perfectly.

I know I'm resurrecting an older post, but I am curious as to why did you cut the barrel down in the first place? Did a Smith or experienced fellow tell you that this would improve your groups?...or what?

I also cut my barrel down to 18.5".  I just like shorter barrels!  I think the shorter barrel is stiffer making it more accurate.

I read a report long ago on the 30-06 rifle that started with a 28" or so long barrel and they cut it back 1" and a time and they measured an insignificant loss in velocity down the 20".  I figured another 1.5" shorter isn't going to make a noticable difference for my uses and as it turned out, my shortened barrel is extremely accurate.

I have one in a 25-06.  Paid $300 new for it a gun show. I've shot federal w/90 gr sierra varminter and handloaded 120 gr speer.  I get about 1-1.5 in groups with either load, though the 120gr speer does a bit better.  Mounted w/ a Simmons 8-point 4-12x.  I'm really impressed with this setup for the money.  I'm not a fan of simmons scopes, but it holds zero and the optics aren't that bad.  I would, and have, recommended the stevens 200 to anyone looking for a low priced shooter.  Not a fancy gun, but it gets the job done!!

 ;D I haven't purchased a Stevens yet but as soon as my #$ 1000 gift card comes in I will be buying a 30-06, 25-06 and 223. The 06 will have a Trophy 3-9x40, 25-06 Pentax Game-seeker 4-12x40 and the 223 will have the same scope but in 4-16x50. I have 3 guns that have beautiful wood stocks One a Custom 03-A3 in 06 and  Custom 98 mauser's in 6.5x55 and 243. All have the Gameseeker scopes on them. I need a good light weight Mountain gun and the 25-06 fills the bills and the 06 a light weight Elk gun and the 223 just because it's cheap to shoot. Jess

I've got one in .243, and I'm getting sub-1" with handloads. I haven't tried factory rounds in it. I wish that I had bought a bunch of these when Bass Pro had them in .270 & 30-06 for $199! I paid $239 for mine, but from what I understand, they've gone up quite a bit in the last year or so.

All the ones I have shot it was more a question of  "How well can I shoot my Stevens 200 ? " They are Very accurate.

Well, initially my Stevens 200 in .308 shot well enough for deer hunting. But....I like guns to shoot nice tight groups.....sooooo...I did 2 things to my Stevens. I bedded the stock with Devcon  http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=647161&t=11082005 and the second thing I did was replace the plastic trigger guard with a stainless steel one.

For the bedding project I made sure (once the Devcon had set) that I dremmeled any away from the magazine and also made sure the barrel nut was "free floating". Once I was done...and with the help of Berger VLD bullets, my Stevens .308 shoots a 4 shot group just slightly bigger than one-half inch @ 100 yards.
