.45 LC for bear protection?
« on: October 11, 2007, 11:28:27 AM »
Is a 45 LC good enough for bear protection with the right loads?  It seems as if more pistols are available in .45 LC than in .44 Mag., especially in single action.  There are also more lever rifles available it seems.  Also, with hot loads, probably only certain brands of revolvers are safe.  Is this correct?  I've read that .45 LC is just as powerful as .44 Mag with the right loads and firearms.  What do you guys think?

A good hardcast load out of either will be about equal in effectivness.  I carry a 44 mag now but back when I first moved here i carried a 45lc in a ruger blackhawk.

Yep.  Good heavy hardcast.

I carried a Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC for many years.  Never had to use it.  Then when the .454 came out I upgraded.  Hope I never have to use it either.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
