looking to buy a 45LC lever action...

I had a .357 rossi lever action rifle when I was younger and never should of sold it, but i'm looking for a .45LC lever now.  What should I pay new, or used?  I will use it for plinking and hunting.  Are they still under $400??

Some while back (can't recall if last year or early this year) I picked up one from GBO Member ShaneR up in Ohio. He had it listed for I think about $450, no clue how that price relates to actually selling price these days. I had a Remington 700 VLS listed at $500 and we swapped with $50 boot coming my way so I reckon I can say I put the full $450 into it.

This one is the 24" barrel version with the silly safety that my EMF 20" barrel didn't have. It's got a brass receiver or maybe it's brass plated I really dunno and the butt plate is brass. Nice looking gun really as it looks almost like new.

I finally got around to shooting it yesterday and that sucker is a shooter for sure. So was my EMF 20". They do seem to shoot rather well from my limited experience with them. I have a 20" round barrel .357 from LSI also but I've not gotten around to shooting it yet. I figure tho that like my others it will shoot nicely.

Both my .45s have been capable of shooting one ragged hole at 25 yards with loads they like and I don't think either have done worse than perhaps 1.5" at 25 even with loads they don't like so well. One of these days I'll shoot this 24" gun out to perhaps 100 yards just to see what my real world limit is shooting it on game. I'm betting my eyes not the gun will determine that max range.

You'll like it for sure if you get one. I had one of the Marlin Cowboy .45s when they first came out and I never did find a load with that gun that would stay on a target sheet much less the target. That was a real lousy shooting gun and didn't hang around here long.

I just got 2 1/4 inches at 100 yards with my Trapper and a Marble tang sight.   Lateral spread was 1", it was the vertical stringing that opened the group.  I attribute that to my error of placing the front sight on the bottom of the bull.   Group was 4 shots.  Didn't fire a 5th because I was confirming a hunting load.  Saw no need at the time.  Load was a 250 grain XTP over a generous amount (but still within the book) of surplus H110.
