Cocking Indicator on a Savage 99
« on: July 25, 2003, 06:11:23 AM »
Last night when touching up the scope on my 99 Savage the cocking indicator (brass button) fell out of its indentation. It appears to be broken. Should it have a pin hole through it. It appears to be broken at the pin hole giving the impression of a screw slot on the bottom.
Can the rifle safely be used  like this. Deer season opened yesterday here on Prince of Wales Island Ak. and would like to use the rifle. Is this a user friendly swap to install a new indicator. If so who would be a supplier of that item. Thanks and good luck. POW

The hole you've observed is for the spring that actuates the botton.  I've not seen one of these indicators break before but they should be available from GunPartsCorp and if not should not be difficult to make.  If you remove the butt stock the process for replacement should be fairly obvious.  In any case the lack of the indicator should not tie up the weapon..  Good luck with the hunting!!
