Could the marlin 1895 action be designed to shoot shotgun shells?

With more and more states going to "shotgun" only hunting, do you think Marlin could beef up the 1895 (45-70) action be changed to shoot 12ga slugs?

I think a lever action Marlin shotgun would be a huge seller.

No.

A 12 gauge shotgun shell is 2.75" long.  The Marlin 1895 can barely accommodate a 2.73" 45 caliber round let alone cycle one that is wider at the nose and longer.  Perhaps the Winchester 1886 would be a better choice.

theres a company that sells reproductions of the old winchester lever shotguns. Maybe someone here can let you know who it is.

 I wonder.................???............What if.................Some erstwhile soul bored the rifling out of a .45-70 to a straight cylinder bore, and loaded ".45 brass shotgun w/slugs", and would they have more power than the .410 shotgun slug load ?

I saw a Marlin lever gun at Barrow Hardware in Butler GA today. I had to take a double take. It was chambered for a 410. The store was packed so I did not get a chance to look it over. It looked new.
