Savage Doner action

A few months ago, I bought an old 110 E in 30/06. The Gun was in good shape but nothing to look at. I really didn't need a 30/06, as I already have one, but the gun was a very good deal and I thought that I may do some augmentation to it. Well I have finally decided what to do with it. I Talked to Pac-Nor today and intend to have them re barrell and re chamber to 240 wby Mag.  Here is the catch, Rich, the Gunsmith at Pac-Nor asked me to research the parts to open up the bolt face for the Magnum Cartridge. Savage doesn't carry parts for a gun this old, Nor did Numerich or Brownells. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I saw some bolt faces on Midways site the other day. I not sure as to what size you need,but if you get the name of the manufacturer and contact them, they may be able to help ya. Just a thought....

Why not have in barrreled for the 6mm-06? You wouldn't have to change anything but the barrel. Just another thought...

There is a post over on Savage Shooters about this, look in the bolt-action FAQs.  Looks like you can use a newer bolt with the old action if you use a new style barrel(sounds like you have this covered already) and trigger.

I thought the 240 Wby used a .30-06 bolthead. Am I wrong?

After I got home from work, I checked my reloading manuals and found that the .240 Wby does indeed use a .473 boltface- same as the .30-06. So you wont need any alteration to the bolt. I am surprised that the guy at Pac Nor did not know that.

Thanks for the info, That makes the decision that much better. I am shipping my action on Monday.
