« on: May 31, 2008, 05:09:11 PM »
Ok, so say me and my shiny new 22 manage to actually bag a crow or two this coming season, now what do I do?

Use a 22-250 so there will not be large enough pieces left to eat

Growing up we had the rule that you ate what you killed, whatever it was.
Killed three crows one day. Fried them up like chicken.
Never, ever killed another crow.

That bad? I drove up to north central Maine last Memorial Day and I must've passed a few hundred of them scavenging off all the road kill.

Some where I saw a book written by a guy that has eaten every kind of animal he can find.
Maybe I am fortunate, I grew up on a farm and always had plenty of good pork and beef.
Add chicken to that and I rarely eat much else

We never had that rule when I was a kid.  Some critters was just flat recognized as vermits that needed killin'!

So if you had mice in your house you trapped them and ate them?  Ants?  Snakes?  A rabid dog?

:) good point but I think he was referring to what he killed as what he actually hunted

I wouldn't eat them either, but I know some people do. I watched a hunting show once where they hunted and ate them.
Here's a link to their website: www.crowbusters.com/recipes.htm

Whenever we go out and try to "harvest" a few crows, it's strictly to help fertilize the field they land in

I read something lately about that rhyme, it had its origin in England, where their "blackbirds" are not the same as ours. Maybe "rooks". I read that during WW2, in England, they were considered good fare!

oh, when yu are really hungry, blackbirds taste great. but not as good as a nice baked possum.taste is specific to exactly how long its been since yu last ate.boiled bobcat would be better than a chinese buffet if yu aint et in 3 or 4 days.

I've ate crow many a time, but it had nothing to do with meat.   ;)
