Black Powder Turkey
« on: October 28, 2007, 09:33:50 AM »
Sat on my stand until noon and decided to walk the hunt club roads. Well about a half an hour later I sat in the ditch under a tree and was trying to take a nap when I noticed movement about 75 yards away. At first I thought, " man what some hogs", then I counted 8 gobblers. Using an old tree stump as a rest I put the bead on the lead gobbler saying to myself, if I miss it's your day, if I don't it's my day. His head was bobing up and down so I jigled my rifle barrel, when he saw me he froze. Well as luck would have it I hit him right in the neck where I was aiming. This has been a slow season so far here in Florida but I was able to break the ice with a 18 lb. turkey.

Where are you hunting where it's legal to kill a turkey now?

Here in Florida you are allowed to hunt and shoot bearded turkeys during muzzle loading season, and also during general gun season, but no hens are permitted to be taken.
