.280 & 140 Gr Accubonds-Good Powders
« on: October 19, 2007, 05:17:11 PM »
I just picked up a box of 140 gr Accubonds to try out.  I am using a Ruger Mark II.  I have been using the 140 gr Sierra Gamekings.  I had a couple deer end up like NONYA's antelope when shot at close range.  I like those bullets as far as accuracy, ballistics, and price goes, but if a deer pops up close, they tend to like to make big holes.

Anyway, I would like to know which powders work good with this, and what a mild charge would be.  I have been using RL22 with pretty good results, but if somebody had other suggestions, I would like to hear them.

I know nobody likes to give out charge weights (safety reasons), but like I said, if somebody had a mild load to start me out with.  I usually buy the 100 packs for $20, not the 50's for $20.  I am cheap, and I don't like to "waste" my money on a load that will not shoot well.

I've always had real good luck with IMR 4350 in any of the o6' cases..The 280 shouldn't be much different.. Nosler list it and the start load is 48.5 grains for 2718fps...50.5 grains for it's mid load at 2831fps...and the max charge at 52.5 grains at 2940fps...This is from a 26" barrel...Remington cases and Federal 210 primers...It's a powder I would try..

52.5 grains of IMR 4350 works real well in my Remy 280 Mountain Rifle with the 140 grain Accubonds.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

I think I'll probably try a can of 4350.  I checked some of my records from about 10 years when I tried it.  I remember having excellent groups with the 139 hornadys.  Don't know why I abandoned it though.  I'll report back as soon as I can get out shooting.
