Bushnell Sharpshooter Series Scope on a Stevens 200 (3006)

I was thinking of buying a Bushnell sharpshooter scope (3-9 to put on my Steven 200 (3006)

Any Thoughts? I have an old Tasco 4x on it at the moment.

I would probably buy a little better scope considering the luck I've had with two of them although they are 4 X 12's, not 3 X 9's. I bought both for .22 LR guns because recoil wouldn't be a problem. One is still OK, the windage adj. on the other quit. I returned it to Bushnell and when it came back it had turned into a Banner so I can't complain about Bushnell's warranty service.

Whew!  As much as I like Bushnell scopes and have written of it here on GB's, I would think a Sharpshooter on an '06 would be asking a lot of the scope.

I have an older Sharpshooter that came on a used rifle.  It is a 4X and is currently mounted on a .22.  I like it and have had no problems, but I've never purchased a new Bushnell below the Sportsman line.

I do like the Sportsman and have several mounted on .22 LR's and .22 Mags.  I also have them on lower recoiling centerfires such as (2) .223's and a .44 Mag Handi rifles.  I've not had any issues with any of them.

I've had very good luck with the Banner and Legend models, as well.

The old Tasco may hold up better than the Sharpshooter.  Older Tasco scopes that were made in Japan are praised for their optics and durability as well as steel tube construction.  I bought a Tasco 3X9X32 with the "Wide View" feature in 1975 and its still on the Rem 700 .30-06 that I mounted it on then.  It functions as well today as it did when new.  Curiously, when I bought the Tasco it was considered a bottom end scope.  Now the Japanese Tasco's bring a good dollar on the used market.

You can put a Nikon on for pretty cheap money.  I've got a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 on my 110 and it only cost me $159 with the BDC reticle.  I know Kittery Trading Post has refurbished Prostaffs with the Nikoplex for like $110 and the Buckmasters for $149.  Just get a one-piece base since getting eye relief on a Savage long-action is kind of tricky.  I know Weaver makes a tactical one piece base with plenty of slots which makes scope mounting a breeze.  Hope this helps.

I would think that you would be happier with the old Tasco than the Bushnell. Save up you money and buy a quality 3 - 9X. There are lots of choices, but I do not think you will be happy until you get into the $200 range for a scope. If you want a cheaper scope that should last look at this one. I think you would be much happier with this than the one you are looking at. and it is still under $100.

It sounds like a good plan to me. In the past it did not make sense to to me to spend a lot of money on a scope. Been there, done that. As time goes on and I have gotten more experience with scopes, I have found a quality scope not only gives a better sight picture, it gives you piece of mind, that also gives you more confidence in your shooting ability. When you pull the trigger you know where it is going to go. I would think that a quality 3 - 9 is all the scope you will need for your 30-06. IMO a quality 10X scope will out shoot a poor quality 24X every time.
