new old Redhawk
« on: May 29, 2006, 06:31:43 AM »
I have been looking for a used 5.5 in bbl Redhawk for years (seems like) here in Michigan.  I wanted it for a woods gun now that I scoped my SRH.  I could not find one so I bought a Blackhawk in 45 with a 4 5/8 in bbl about three weeks ago.  (Well it did not take to much arm twisting because it was no my list anyway, it just moved up).  Well Saturday my 16 yr old son talked me into going to a local gun shop.  He spotted a almost new Redhawk, blued, 5.5 in bbl for $329.  So now I have that too.  Anyone know if Ruger will tell you the date of manufacture?

Dont know about Ruger telling you when it was made, but picked up same gun a yr ago. It was used and had a set of pacmyer grips on it. They ate a hole in my hand shooting heavy loads. Put a set of Hogue grips on it and have been shooting a 310gr hard cast loaded fairly warm without any probs. Just a thought.

I am thinking about Hogues.  I have them on many of my handguns and really like them, especially on my SRH.  However, the Redhawk looks so good with the wood, I may keep them.  Unless teh recoil is too much.  I reload so I mainly shoot light loads for plinking and reserve  the hot ones for only occasional practice and when needed.

I have 5 ½” SS NMBHs in .45 Colt with .45 ACP cylinders, a 5 ½” SS SBH in .44 mag, and SS 5 ½” Redhawks in .44 and .45. Sometimes it can be difficult to choose.
Ruger’s website has a listing of serial numbers by year. Here is the Redhawk:
