i was reading a war novel (the title i have forgotten) but it referred to arms being sent to britian. they where BAR's, hotchkiss MG's and ross rifles. but they where all in .300 rimless, which i think is .30-06. is this true and do these rifles ever show up at shows?

Had me going crazy. I knew I'd seen these someplace, don't know where.
 In Ezell's SAotW there is a small mention of them, doesn't say anything about caliber but I bet you are right about 30'06.
   Ezell says during WW11, after Dunkirk Canada gave the UK 70,000 Ross  rifles and the US giving some 785,000 M1917 Enfields.
  I know I seen some more indepth info someplace but I remember where, I guess my mind is really slipping. I'll keep looking.

I know the .280 Ross was also known as the .280 Rimless, so my assumption would be that .300 Rimless would be a variation on the .280 Ross.

I know there were some Ross's floating around (pun intended) during WWII, since there were several on naval ships in the North Atlantic.  I guess they figured they were OK there - no mud on board ship.

Well, I musta been dreaming. I thought I'd seen this mentioned somewhere, looked all around, was driving me crazy.
   I did find that the US bought 20,000 Ross rifles in 1917 for training purposes.
