This stinks, saw a huge buck a few minutes ago!
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:10:02 AM »
I was out on the trail this morning and a huge 10 point (at least) buck exploded out of a thicket about 20yds from me and my horse.  Luckily, my horse had a good reaction and just stood there watching so I could take it all in as the buck bounded across the field we were in.  This is the biggest buck I have ever seen personally in the wild.  I would be excited if not for the fact that for the second year in a row, my bow season isnt gonna happen due to a shoulder injury. If I had the money, I'd go get a x-bow and get a temp permit from the doctor and MDC which I am sure wouldnt be a problem.  I seriously doubt he will survive in this area till rifle season.  Some one is gonna have a wallhanger if they can connect with him!

I feel you pain.  Both my shoulders have gone south in the last few years and I am afraid that my bow pulling days are over. :(  I don't know much about cross bows but I guess I need to read up on them and start saving my change if I intend to arrow a deer.

You can find an application for a Hunter Method Exemption card on the MDC website.  You and your physician fill it out.  If you're physically unable to draw a bow, you may qualify for legally using a crossbow in Missouri.

I've got a 4 pointer, 3 pointer and 2 forked horns (Western count) that come up to 10 feet of my fence and browse. My older dog dosent even bother to look at them, my younger dog stands there and gives a low growl. I can walk up to the fence and they might even look up every now and then. Problem is I'am backed up to a state park, you dont even want to think about firing a round into the park.
Never had much luck with a bow. I'am one of those people that could stand inside a barn and still not hit a wall.

I was doing a pretty good job of putting bow season out of my mind but this guy just blew all that out of the water!

That sucks Bud. But i feel ya. my shoulder is headed quickly in that direction. Have you tried turning your bow all the way down ?? You might wanna try and find a 50-60 pond bow. But i would just shoot a little now and again and see if you cant get used to it a little. I cant shoot a lot but i shoot enough to keep shooting all right. All you got to shoot is one shot and big boy is done. ;D

No worries, cause this morning, I just shot him!  It's either him or one pretty similar which is more likely since I was hunting abouta mile or two from where I saw him in the original post.  I know they can move quite a bit so could very well be him.  Regardless, I just killed the biggest buck for me so far in my hunting carreer.  I'd call him a 10 pointer although a couple of his points are not very big.  He also has a couple of additional points at his bases so some might call him a 12.  I dont care what he is labeled as though cause he is the best buck for me so far.  Just wish my daughter could have been out there with me but she aint done hunting yet so maybe she can beat her old man!  Pics to follow!

Nice buck.  Sounds like a decent horse, too.  Mine does better with deer than turkeys, which totally blow his tiny little appy brain!
