30-06 SS Handi Anyone Have One? How Do You Like It?
« on: October 24, 2007, 02:51:49 PM »
I'm interested in the SS 30-06 Handi. Does anyone own one? If so, how do you like it?
I'm a big fan of the '06. I have been shooting that caliber for years. Unfortunately
I had to get rid of my M77 Ruger several years back and have been without a '06
for way too long. I really like the looks of the stainless Handi except for the
synthetic stock and forend. That could easily be taken care of by switching to
wood. I'm interested to know is these rifles are real shooters for people who
own them.  Thanks!

I have one, bought it from another member here, he was having accuracy issues with it, I dumped the syn stock in favor of a laminated stock with polished steel spacer and trigger guard and it shoots very well with 150gr Fusion ammo. ;)

Hey Tim,

Where did you get the laminated stock/forearm?  I looked on H&R's accesory order form on their web site, but they only list wood and synthetic.  Just ordered a .270 stainless myself, and would like to get laminated stuff.

Thanks.

Cinnamon or camo lams are available, see the retail parts price list in the FAQs, you won't find the gray lams tho, they don't make em anymore. But you could order a set from GBO sponsor GSI and finish them yourself.

Here's a blow up of my avatar with a NEF 30-06 in blue barrel and Choate stock which I replaced with the original fiberglass due to liking the compact carbine feel the original had.

I'm using an aimpoint and Sierra 220 grain RN with it. Can't report on any other bullets but definitely a good bear set up with above. Will try deer in a couple weeks with it.

Lots of bullet choices with a 30-06 for sure.

Hey quickdtoo the reason you store your guns muzzle down is due to the oil possibly soaking into the wood?

That too, but mostly to keep oil from running down the bore/barrel and on to the latch shelf.

Nice bear!!
