Barrel Fitting Question, Again.

I read the barrel fitting post under center fires but I have a question.
I have a Tracker II barrel that I am trying to use on my shot barrel receiver. When I mount the Tracker II, it seems to fit and I can close the action but the latch just does not catch. I noticed that my shot barrel is recessed a little below the top of the receiver when it is latched in place. The top of the Tracker II barrel is flush to the top of the receiver. Do I have the wrong size receiver for this barrel or what is going on?

With the action closed, see if you can see light between the barrel and standing breech above the firing pin when viewed from the side, there shouldn't be a visible gap there, should be tight. Until it fits tight there, don't touch the latch shelf.

I just check and, yes, I can see an ever so small amount of light between the top of the barrel and the top of the receiver. What must be done to correct this?

Well, for once in my life I may have just gotten very lucky. I headed down to my workbench and took a 3/8" Drill Bit to the pivot point on the barrel. I kept running it in the grove, slowly shaving away metal. I kept trying to fit it and low and behold it now locks up tight. I tried to push down on the barrel as hard as I could to try and get it to disengage and it won't. I will do the candle smoke test but it seems to be working pretty good now. Thanks for the help. I went from being bummed out over just buying a barrel that wouldn't work to being thrilled about having a nice combo.

Is there any reason that I should worry about taking to much out of the pivot point?

PS: I can't believe how lucky I got guesstimating with a drill bit and having it turn out the way it did.

If you remove too much from the pivot, the barrel will be loose on the frame, that's why it's important to go slow and check the fit often, there's not much between not fitting and too loose. ;)
