.300 Win Mag Loads
« on: June 07, 2007, 05:27:43 AM »
A friend of mine just bought a new Encore Pro Hunter in .300WM for an Elk hunt in October.  We have been loading 180gr Nosler Accubonds and shooting IMR 4831 but we are not getting groups like we had hoped.   Just wondering what loads have worked well for you guys.  Thanks PaLongshank

Try the 180 gr Interlock Hornady Custom factory loads.
The .300 WM barrel I have shot a 1.03 group for it's first 3 shot group with this load. I sure if I keep the barrel and break it in, then take my time it would do even better.
I have had great luck with the Hornady ammunition in 30/06, .300 Weatherby and now with the .300 Win Mag.

The 300 win mag is one of my current projects. I found 80.5 gr. of H-1000 with win mag primers work well with any 180 grain bullet. I set the COL to just off the lands; about 0.005" or so.  1" groups are now normal. I particularly like the Nosler Partition spitzers. Good luck!

Are any of you guys getting less than 1" groups at 100 yards?  I thought the pro-hunter barrels would do better than that.

PaLongshank, until people realize it, you are not going to get two guns to shoot alike with the same loads. Every gun has to be worked with to obtain the most accuracy.

In my Encore with a 300 Win Mag barrel, I found through a lot of shooting that it liked the Barnes X 165 gr. bullets the best. I tried 180 gr. TSX, 165 gr. Nosler Partitions, Winchester 180 gr. fail safes and many others. It takes time to find what the gun likes, not what you like or works for others.

This holds true for any gun, rifle, handgun, muzzleloader.
