7mm TCU insight?

I *might* be picking up a 21"  7mm TCU barrel later today - I'll be looking at it after work today. Fellow wants to sell a frame with both pistol and carbine barrels & stocks.

I've never really thought about the 7mm TCU, but think it might be a fun gun for my 11 year old daughter. Anyone here have experience with it in a 21" barrel? Is it a pain to load for? Should I just sell the barrel and get something more common for her to shoot?

Easy as any other. Lube the inside of necks of .223 case the first time to form the case. Then load and fire them to fire form which only slightly alters the shoulder. You can hardly tell a fire formed one from one not yet fire formed. Then from there it's load as normal like any other round. Excellent light recoil round that kills deer nicely.

And....later in life, when young one is wanting more horsepower, it can easily be rechambered to 7-30 Waters,which is about as good as it gets in a Contender Carbine for deer size game.

Don't recehmber it to 7-30 Waters, Buy another barrel (unless that one doesn't shoot good due to a bad throat).

My 7mm TCU is an early barrel, only one forend screw, and it shoots great!  I actually used once fired Remington Brass I had and it worked great.  I formed like said, I lubed with Imperial Sizing wax, then cleaned lube with Q-tip and then tumbled. 

I love the 21" older tapered Carbine Barrels.  I do want one in 7-30 Waters to, but that has to wait right now.

Last night I resized my first batch of new, commercial .223 brass to 7mm TCU.  I've never resized anything before...  It was very easy and the results were great.  I'm very happy with my resized brass and I made a batch of fireforming loads (full-boat -10%) per the Speer manual and I'm off to the range this morning. 

I was worried that I would have trouble finding brass but that isn't a problem any more.

Follow up on my first-time resizing / fire-forming 7mm TCU.  At 50 yds, I shot Hornady 100 grn HP and Hornady 120 grn SSP bullets for my fireforming loads.  Both shot 10 shot groups into ragged holes.  I'm going to tinker with the loads now and move to the 100 yrd range.  With a little adjustment should be 1 MOA.  Keep the barrel!
