Eye Relief Question on Contender
« on: October 29, 2007, 02:19:36 PM »
On my 358 JDJ contender barrel I sighted it in and when I got it zeroed in (3 shot group of .65"!!!)(AA 2520, 51.5 gr. w/ 225 gr Nosler Partition-Thanks for the load Graybeard!)  When I came home I noticed when I lifted the gun up I had to adjust the eye relief on the scope to see the whole view of the scope.  It is a good scope-Nikon Monarch 2.5-8x.

Will moving the eye relief change my point of impact or will I be O.K. and not have to sight it in again?

Thanks,

Bob

I'm not really sure what you are asking here. What did you do to "change eye relief"? Since that's really NOT do able by an owner. Eye relief is set by the manufacturer when they design the scope and really is not alterable by owner.

Did you adjust the FOCUS of the eye piece or did you slide the scope in the rings backward or forward?

If you did either of those I'd fire a round to double check but most of the time neither really changes POI so long as you didn't twist the scope in the process. I've done both with no shift in POI.

I guess I adjusted the focus.  It's on the back of the scope and kind of screws out.  I had to screw it further out to have a full field of view.

Thanks,

Bob

Yup that's a focus adjustment not an eye relief adjustment. Most of the time it will not change your point of impact. Still it's always best to fire a shot or two just to be sure.
