Which one of these .223's is going to be the better gun?
One is a Browning A-Bolt I don't know which model and the other is a Savage Varmint 12FV.
I will be shooting around 200 to 250 yards with what ever factory load it likes best

Sorry it is not on your list but I would go for the Remington 700 SPS 223. I am sold on it. Dale

Between the 2 you listed I would go with the Browning.
If you are shooting 250 yards or less there are plenty of brands that are accurate enough so that is almost a non issue....

I'd say as for accuracy the Savage may be the better rifle. In any manufactuer you have a chance of getting a lemon or a great shooter. I bought my first savage 110 about 10 years ago in 223. It will realistically shoot .3 to .5 inch 3 shot groups with handloads i have used in it. I have had great luck with Hornady Vmaxes in the 40 and 60 grain sizes and 52 grain Amaxes. I've never shot an A bolt so I can only relate to the savage. I'm not sure if it's true but they always talk about Savage accuracy.

I second the Savage, especially for the money.

Check on the twist rate of each. It will help you find a load. I think the Savages are 1/9 and they like 55 and 62 grain bullets. The Browning I think is a 1/12 and will like the 42 and 46 grainers.

Yes the Savage 1:9 twist thats one of the reasons I went with it also so I can shoot a heaver bullet

I really like the Savage actions. Not that they are alot better than other actions, but you can change the barrels yourself with them, at least if you know how to set the head space.

Congratulations, Coyote-hunter.  I've had a 110 for several years.  Frankly, it was not a good shooter at all from the factory, but I can't say for certain whether that was entirely the gun or partly the ludicrous scope that came in the package.  The barrel (.270) has a tight spot in it that may or may not contribute to the problem.  I have a .243 barrel on it now and it seems OK.

I have a CZ in .223 on layaway right now.  I'm really excited to have it in the field.  I've also had an A-bolt in '06 that shot like a dream.  Please post up how your Savage shoots for you!

Just picked up my CZ 527 American left hand rifle yesterday:  It is also in .223.  The barrel is factory floated and it has a single set trigger.  The factory three shot group measures 5/16."   It will get a Leupold FXIII 6x42 scope.   Can't wait to get it scoped and take it to the range.

Don't rule out the lighter bullets either! Some 1-9 barrels shoot them well also! Ron

A Rock River, DPMS or Stagg Arms AR 15 w/ 22 or 24 inch stainless varmit barrel would be your best choice - otherwise get the Savage.
