I went to Gander looking for a set of Remington chokes and a turkey choke for my 870 20 ga.  $29.95 each for the Remington kit with a wrench and a tiny bottle of Rem oil and a Undertaker turkey choke.  I went to the local Philipson's Army & Navy store and found them for $19.95 each!  I can understand a difference in price, but 50% more is way out of line.  Let the buyer beware!  On the other hand they had a 10% off everything sale over the weekend with many happy customers.

You can go to any two similar stores and find the same products with a $10 difference.  I understand what you're saying, but if they gouged every price they'd be out of business.

all companies will have prices high. last year around jan. i bought that same choke set you were talking about at gander and it was only $12.99 supposedly $2 off. i like them and it works fine. at gander i paid $10 for the undertaker choke and its better than the custom chokes that are made here in town

In my area small shops are closing down. There are a few but not many, more or less we are forced to go to the big guys. We certainly cannot get upset and stop shopping many!

Price isn't the only factor that puts me in a store.  Customer service for me is #1.  If they are friendly and helpful, I will go back.  That is what helps keep the little guys in business. That and low overhead.

For example there is an archery shop here in SE Wisconsin that I have had nothing but trouble with their customer service for years. I wouldn't go in there for a couple years, and every time I went back there would be something else.  I'm not going to mention their name because I actually know the owner.  When I was looking for a new bow I looked there and another place near Madison (Little John's).  Little John's was about $50 more (and 25 miles further) for the whole set up for the Hoyt XTEC than the other place, but they were sooo much better to deal with it really was an easy choice. I am not a hard customer to deal with, just want the seller to at least act like they want my business and know what they are talking about so they can help me get what I'm looking for.

Business owner's who don't want to deal with customers like me (Scott B.) won't have to worry about that.  And I'm sure they had plenty more like me at one time or another.  Would be nice to know the name of his store so I make sure not to bother him.

Like I said before.  Went to Cabela's and they gladly gave them to me.  And TC sends them out for free also.

No whining here, just people telling their experiences with retailers.  Others can digest the info anyway they want.

I guess I will eat a little crow pie. I lost my bow release the other night while coming out of the woods.  So I went to Sportsman's Warehouse and was not very impressed with their selection ( I really don't think they should have warehouse in their name).  Because I was short on time was forced to go to the new Gander in Waukesha.  Pretty nice store.  Anyway was looking for another Tru-Ball and a sales rep came up to me and helped me out.  Took a bunch of the out of the package so I could try them.  Ended up buying a True-Fire that is made exclusively for Gander of all things.  I like it much better than my old one, and if it weren't for his help I wouldn't have gone with this one.  So I guess avoid Gander completely, just the Kenosha store.

paint it orange or something bright so you won't lose it. then while your hunting and go to shoot it will be covered up by your hand so it won't spook anything if you are worried. i painted all mine bright orange
