Hammer to frame alignment on Taurus revolvers, gauging metal?

I once owned 3 Taurus revolvers bought new in 1997.  One thing I remember about them was that when the hammer would fall there was enough play in the hammer mounting pin that it would hit the side of the frame.  I had read that the Smith and Wessons were especially fitted and timed to prevent this.

The cylinder release on the left side was also alot looser than a Smith and Wesson.

After several hundred rounds of ammo it was not nice to see the metal being gauged out of the frame walls in the hammer well from the hammer contact.  Have you guys with the newer Taurus revolvers noticed these problems?  Has Taurus fixed this with better fitting?

My Ruger GP 100 does not have this problem, and I paid only $400.00 for it new in the box in 2003, nice gun too.

I have three taurus revolvers, and I have had a similar problem with one, but it wasn't play in the hammer, it was rubbing against the frame.  Well, not the hammer, the hammer pin was, so I had to rub that down, and all better. 

The cylinder release on them does move around a little on some models, but it doesn't take down on the function of the gun whatsoever.  Haven't been able to rattle loose or break the release on my m444, and it moves up and down a little bit.

My model 66 Taurus has as much integrity as the S&W 586 that I once owned.  There is no rubbing/gouging of the hammer well and no looseness of the cylinder release either.  Though this was not mentioned in the previous posts, the fit and finish is as good or better than the Smith.  I don't know if the Taurus is as accurate as the Smith was because my eyes have aged and have gone to bi-focals for twenty years, however the Taurus is pretty accurate but I don't have the Smith to shoot for comparison.

Saw a fellow gun club member on Sunday who had a Taurus in .218 Bee, stainless steel.  He bought it 6 years ago and did not have any visible problems with the hammer hitting the frame, or excessive wear on the frame backing plate from the cylinder pin rubbing on it.  Told him he had a good one.
