Sportster 17HMR is getting better!

Shot this 5/8" group at 50 yards today. The Santa Anna winds were starting to kick in today.
Shooting at 100 was frustrating.  A couple of time I nailed these target dot stickers that are
about the size of a nickel with the first shot at 100 then a gust of wind would come up and
the next shot would be off by 2".I hope the wind is not as bad next weekend. The 17 rimfires
are really wind sensitive. They are still a lot of fun to shoot though!

I agree, both fun and wind sensitive, but .22 rimfires are even worse in the wind and the .17 HMR is not as bad as the 30 grain bullets from the .22 WMR. I find it a lot harder to judge wind than range so I'm inclined toward the heavier bullets in each caliber of rimfire, I'll take a little more drop to get a little less drift.

Unfortunately you are kind of limited with the 17HMR to 17gr or 20gr bullets.
I have a couple of 17 HMR's and the 20 gr rounds have never worked as well
as the 17gr V-Max. I have never tried the 30gr bullets in my 22 Mag. I picked
up some Winchester 40gr JHP's for it when I first got it and got lucky. They
shoot the best of any ammo that I have tried so far.
