Shot a 500 S&W yesterday!

I was visiting my wife's relatives yesterday when her Nephew say's 'Hey, look what I've got!' and pulled a neat, little NEF in 500 S&W out of the case.  'Picked it up for $200 bucks from a friend' he said, "along with a box and a half of ammo".  I looked at it's compact dimensions and the tru-glow sights and when he asked if I wanted to shoot it, I said 'H#!! yes!'  It was a ball and I wish he had brought more ammo but he only had 3 rounds left in the box he had with him.  He said he had the other box at home but he was rationing himself as the ammo was $45 a box!  He mentioned that he may not keep the gun because of the cost of feeding it (he doesn't reload).  Hmmmm.   On one hand I would love to have it but on the other, would it really do anything my 45-70 will not? (and does that really matter?)  Decisions, decisions!  44 Man

I have both plus a 444 and 45 Colt, and a 44mag on the way, so it doesn't hurt anything , although I do have three 45-70s and only one .500, if that tells ya anything!! I've shot Ranger Rick's 700gr in the 500, and thinking about getting some of his 720gr  for the 45-70.

My 500 shoots 440 grain bullets with .458 meplats.  I haven't needed to shoot the 45-70 yet.  It pokes big clean holes through animal flesh.  I haven't shoot anything living with the 700's yet...but I will.

I'd just love to shoot something that bleeds, been a looooong time.
