Sure we talk about big game hunting heads but what do you use for different game.

1.) Small Game (squirrels, rabbits)
2.) Big Game(speaks for itself)
3.) Field Practice(stump shooting and such)
4.) Target Practice

I'll go first.

1.) Blunts - I like the hard rubber type, really shocks them when hit.
2.) Wasp Hammer SST 125 grain
3.) Judo Points 125 grain, the type with the spring arms
4.) Combo Points

1.) Judo Points and/or Field Tips with Adder Points.
2.) Muzzy 4-blade 130gr...going to try 3-blade 115gr this year.
3.) Field tips with Adder points.
4.) Field tips with Adder points and Muzzy practice heads.

I'll put in my two cents...
1.) Small Game, rubber screw on blunts, on flu flu arrows.
2.) Big Game four blade Muzzy 90 gr.
3.) Field Practice bullet tips rubber screw on blunts, on flu flu arrows.
4.) Target Practice bullet tips 90 gr

Well here are my points:

1. Judo and .357 blunts

2. 145 or 160 grain Snuffers, hair popping sharp

3. 145 grian screw in field points

4. 145 grain screw in field points

2. Big Game: Cut-on-contact broadheads(3 or 4 blade models).
Magnus, Wensel Woodsmand, Steel Force, Satilite Titan, Razor Caps.
3. Field Practise: Judo points.
4. Target Practise: Saunders Field Tips.

Here's my selection :

1) Small Game = Saunders "Bludgeon" rubber blunt (THE HAMMER!)
2) Big Game = Thunderhead 125gr
3) Stump shooting = same as #1
4) Target Shooting = combo points

I have always just Bowhunted Biggame for the past 45 years & the Squirrells, Rabbits, grouse, Pheasant,groundhog & other various small game that have fallen to my LUCK shots have been with whatever Broadhead I was using at the time. I took my 1st deer in 1958 with a MA3 Blade, 1st Wild hog with the same & then a few deer with the High Precision 3 blade & Bear Razorhead-early stick bow days, wood arrows.
I prefer a 3 blade as they "ALWAYS" seem to fly great with no adjusting.
The stick bow & wood arrows accounted for several Whitetails, Hog, Mule Deer, Goat & Elk. Now, I use a compound Bow & Rocky Mountain 3 Blade Razors 125 GR. since Robert Barrie came out with them in the early 70s. I have seen no reason to change thou I try new ones all the time but put the Rocky Mountain on when I head for the field & the hunt. I have many Biggame animals to my credit (thanks to the man upstairs). I have been in many Bowhunting camps (plus I was a pro shop owner 15 years) to witness MANY types Broadheads in use & the results. I "WILL" continue to use the Rocky Mountain as I feel MANY of the Broadheads of today are just some sort of a copy of a good thing. Enjoy your time in the field & Bowhunting-it has been my life & a good one. If "YOU" are blessed with half the Bowhunting success I have had-YOU will have many excellent memories.

Well lets see,

Big game broadhead; Muzzy 100gr 3 blade

Small Game and stump shooting (pesky squirrels, feral cats) judo points or empty .357 mag cases slipped over the end of the arrow.

Practice tip; Muzzy 100gr 3 blade broadheads.

I haven't shot a field point in almost six years. My friends wanted me to come shoot a round of indoors with 'em and I couldn't because I didn't have any field tips. That'll cause 'em to call you names.

I use Muzzy 3 blade 100 grain Broadheads.
and field points. Haven't hunted small game or tree stumps.. why would you want to shoot a tree stump anyways?

Why shoot a tree stump??? Realistic practice. Picking out various objects at random yardages and attempting to hit them under actual hunting conditions. It's what the "pioneers" in archery did before there were 3D's. It's still alot of fun to go roving with traditional equipment and "lose" some arrows. In my opinion it still is one of the best forms of treatment that there is for cabin fever.

Since Lawdog started this thread I'll volunteer him as an example.

Lawdog shot at a deer once, missed and struck an old pine stump. One of his buddies came along and saw the arrow sticking out of the stump and asked, "What are you doin?" and he replied "What's it look like I'm doin'?, I'm shootin' stumps" Then his buddy asked, "Well, is it any fun?" and he said, "Lots of fun, you try it." So his buddy drew back and shot, but he under estimated the range and his arrow fell short. So Lawdog tells him "No, like this" and he drew back and shot the stump again. His buddy says "I've got it now" and pulls back and flings an arrow into the stump. Lawdog says "yeah, you got it. Let's go get some lunch" So they pull their arrows. On the way out his buddy spies a pine cone and says " I bet I can hit that pine cone" and he does, so now Lawdog has to save face and shoot the pine cone. Well the rest of the way back to the truck is spent picking out random targets and flinging arrows at them. So the form of practice known as stump shooting is developed or so the story goes. :-D :-D :-D

Traditional equipment. So its not recommended hunting them with a compound?

I've done it before but I've never had much luck stump shooting with my compound. Even with judo points my arrow still seems to get damaged and bent, especially with a direct hit to a somewhat sturdy stump. You can back the draw weight off or go to high profile fletching like a flu flu. This helps but to me it defeats the purpose of practicing with a hunting set up under hunting conditions.

I must be a pie un ear as that IS what we used to do to practice for hunting.
Back in them days when you shot an animal round (paper on cardboard) it was all UNMARKED yardages & MANY were under REALISTIC conditions-bushes, between trees etc. Great fun. I shot many ranges all over Ill., Iowa & a few in Ws. & they were very challenging.
The state & local Broadhead shoots were at a cutout cardboard shape of a deer in various positions & all unmarked yardages-no binoculars or range finders allowed on ranges then. Many thinbgs have changed but we still have a GREAT SPORT-enjoy it fellas. Next time you get ready to climb out of your stand just pick out a leaf, tuft of grass & waste an arrow-see if it WAS THAT BUCK "IF" you would have made the hit.
