.22 Hornet W/ 35 gr Barnes Varminatiors?
« on: November 08, 2007, 10:47:07 AM »
Any body ever shoot these things out of the hornet? I had em in my .223 at one time and didnt like the performance. They were going to fast and expolding before hitting pdogs. So i was just thinking, that the hornet would be perfect! Semi low vel. with a fast expanding bullet! perfect! Ill let you know how they perform after thanksgiving. BUT, if any of you guys have had expieriance with em i would appriciate some input! Thanks in advance!

I just loaded up some, but have not shot them yet. My first concern... are they going to stabilize? These are long bullets for no more than they weigh. They are as long as a 55 grain bullet.

I have seen these advertised as being shot out of 22-250 and not blowing up until they hit something like a grape. My second concern was...will they blow up a 22 Hornet velocities.

If they make it through those to tests then I will see if they shoot accurately or not.

If you wanta try some lighter bullets in the Hornet, try the 30gr Calhoons and Bergers or the 33gr Speer. ;)

I bought the 36 Grain Barnes for my 221 Fire Ball, just thought I would try them in one of my 22 Hornets. I loaded up 10 to try out. I listed my fears that is why I only loaded up 10.

Laotto222 You have to let me know how those turn out! Keep me updated!

Quick! Thanks for that info! I wish it was talked about a little more, but the info gained is great!

Tim - As I recollect you bought some of these bullets too. Have you tried them in a 22 Hornet? If so I take it you were not impressed. I know you like the 35 Grain V-max over 12.5 grains of Lil'gun. That is what I loaded these to try 12.5 grains of Lil'gun.

T'weren't me with the Varminators, I've only shot the 35gr & 40gr Vmax, and the 30gr Calhoons, haven't tried the Bergers yet either, although I have some.

That is why I do not remember your results. ::) I did remember you bought some. Seems like I read some where that these bullets would not stabilize in 22Hornet and I also read that they do not blow up either???

Dunno about the Varminators, but the Bergers and Calhoons work in the Hornet, got data from both mfrs for em in the Hornet. ;)

OOPs!! ::) :-[ I do have some Varminators, but they're 40gr .224" and 72gr 6mm, but like the Bergers, I haven't loaded any of em yet. They were on close out at the local Bimart last year, they're a discontinued bullet.
