Encore will not cock.
« on: October 03, 2007, 11:36:29 AM »
I searched around but did not find any info on this.  My new in the box Encore will not cock with either the 15" or the 26" barrel.  I think it's because the lug does not go far enough into the receiver for the "ear" on the lug to push the "safety cocking lever" back far enough.  Has anyone else had this sort of trouble?  I sent the receiver back to TC with a note.

I called Thompson Monday and they say that the frame cocks for them.  They asked me to send the offending barrel so they can make it work.  My thoughts are if they modify the barrel lug will other barrels still not work?  Hopefully is an oversized lug and a swap to a smaller one will do the trick.  I might have it back by next week.

Six weeks and not one shot fired.  I did however receive a set of decelerator grips I ordered from Mid-South.

The wait continues.......

I read on this forum that there are basically three IIRC sizes of lugs.... that is probably the culprit.
I am not the guru.. though..
there is an FAQ and beginners thread on here... it is wonderful...
If I knew more I would certainly share....
someone here will be able to hook you up, though..
I understood that you could get multiple lugs to insure it all works... has something to do with the age of the barrels, frame, etc. I think.
My old contender is really old... I would guess I could expect a good chance of the same problem occurring...

Thompson is done working on the Encore and has sent it back.  It will arrive tomorrow afternoon.  I hoping for a detailed letter about their findings and repairs.  Then I gonna shoot the heck out of it!

Got it back today but the receipt just said "fitted barrel to frame and function tested".  My secret markings tell me that none of the little parts were swapped out.  So I really don't know what they did but, it works.  I got it too late today to test fire, that will have to wait until Friday.  What's another two days.  Oh yeah, the Decelerator grip fits the frame well and gives me a tad more room to reach the trigger, feels great too.

Well first you take a ....... .... ........ tool and then apply a ......... ....... .... ........ action to the secret area.  A good ..... ......... pen acts as a ....... ... ..... agent.  In the final step you rub ............. ....... solution over the affected part(s) so that the markings can't be seen unless under a ............ ......... colored light.

On a serious note, tomorrow around noonish I'll finally get to touch off a few rounds.  Should be fun!  Now where did I put down that ....... .... ........ tool?

I fired 15 rounds today just to get the feel and to get it generally sighted in with the irons.  I didn't really notice until today how sharp the underside of the frame is by the trigger.  Took a bit of skin off between the knuckles on the left side of the index finger.  I want to mount a scope any suggestions for mount and rings?

I meant the edge between the side of the receiver and the bottom, above the trigger.  I may lightly round it and cold blue.  For now I'll probably just wear some tape on the finger over the affected area.  Or maybe I should just be a man and wait for my finger to toughen up!
