Do Lee Factory Crimp dies work in a Dillon 550B?
« on: November 08, 2007, 05:14:17 AM »
I have a Dillon 550B and I was reloading some 223 ammo last night and hoping to try out my new lee factory crimp die.

I wasn't getting any contact between the cartridge and the die at all.  Right now the die is setting just off of having contact with the shell plate and it's not doing anything.

Should I tighten the die to where it touches the plate and then give the common extra half tightening turn, or will doing this on a progressive press damage the press?

Is anyone else using the Lee factory crimp dies on a Dillon 550B?  I've used the handgun crimping dies with amazing success, but I haven't had a lot of luck yet with the rifle crimp dies.

Is it ok to put that kind of stress & pressure on one part of the shell plate?  Seems like that would throw everything else off a little bit.  I'll try it when I get home tonight and hopefully it'll work this time.

I have done it 100's of times in my 550 for the 6.8 SPC with good results. It is the 4th die in the tool head and may actually create somewhat of a balance of pressure.

Tried it out last night and it worked very nicely.  I just needed to turn the die some more and it worked perfectly.  I have lovely crimps on my handloaded rounds now.
