Jim Shockey's Gold vs. American Pioneer Powder

Is there any difference between the two, other than one having Shockey's name on it?   I've already got the regular stuff, and since I can't find any more Black Mag 3, I need to play with something else.

I tried a lb of it this summer, the Gold, and found the QC was a bit better.  What I mean is less dust, better grain sizes, and I am pretty sure I was getting better velocities(over regular APP) but I don't have the chrony results in front of me.  It's better than regular APP IMHO but I still prefer 777.

It's a little more powerful and an overall more "select" product... I love it in my Pro-Hunter. I'm shooting three JSG Sticks and a 300 grain Nosler... should be bad news for the deer and hogs!

i use JSG in my Encore.  It likes a very tight fitting sabot with the powder charge heavily tamped.

just curious if any one using the pellet form the square ones of American pioneer has had misfires.  My dad was shooting it in his New England with 209 primer and actually had the load of powder and powerbelt move about half way up the barrel after a misfire.  We were lucky that we checked it.  Just wondering.

Unfortunately this is an all too common occurrence.   Most folks who use the sticks crush them slightly when when loading the sabot.  This is what Bryce Towsley did in the tests that he ran for American Rifleman magazine.  The old round Clean Shot pellets were even harder to light.  i had to use about five grains of granular Clean Shot to get them to work reliably.
