Encore vs. Pro Hunter 209x50...
« on: November 08, 2007, 11:36:48 AM »
Guys can't find anything that compares these two barrels...wondering if anyone has shot both and has muzzle velocities from both...T/C's website claims 2203 fps from the Encore but shows nothing for the Pro Hunter.........then there's the extra cost for that couple extra inches of barrel...are both barrels the same other than the length and the fluting?...the other thing is the 25 acp conversion...for the Encore you don't have to send in a replacement plug so basically its $35 cheaper right off the bat...open to your opinions...

I've called T/C a few times and have yet to get a straight answer as to the difference in the barrel of an Encore ML, a ProHunter ML and a 209x50 Magnum ML. In their catalog, they only suggest using 150gr Pyrodex pellets in the Magnum version but plenty of guys here are shooting that load or its equivelent in the other Encore ML's.

Bout the only thing I can see is the length, speed breech, fluting...for around $60 more in the Pro Hunter...not sure its worth it unless the muzzle velocity in that extra couple of inches is alot more than the Encore...but thats why I asked...

Not sure what kind of velocity that the Pro Hunter gets.  Doubt that a deer at 50 yards could tell the difference.  There are  things i do not like about the Pro-Hunter.  i do not like stainless barrels, i do not like the stock or the swing hammer.   Would much rather have an Encore-and i do.

According to Hornady,a 250 gr. SST with three pellets is clocking 2250fps. The gun works for some, and not for others. I like the swing hammer spur, and the pivoting extractor (you have to buy a hammer extension, and a kit for the extractor to get the regular Encore to do those things. As far as the stock,I don't think it's the best looking stock I've seen, but it sure does soak up the recoil! ;D I've got friends that put the Pro Hunter stock on their regular Encores,to make them more comfortable to shoot. I never really cared for the Encore stocks (but that's a personal opinion). I don't think there's much diffrence in the barrels,as far as performance. Ron

I have the pro hunter frame...but only with pistol barrels (7mm-08 and 375 JDJ)...I currently have a Black Diamond (regular)...love it but was thinking of moving on...guess I should just keep it and get something else. It shoots cloverleafs at 100 yards and I do kinda like the musket caps...it was also a no brainer to find a load it liked...drop in two pyrodex pellets...250 grain shockwave and its off to the bullseye...
